Fire Emblem: Three Houses debuts at the top of the UK sales chart

Nintendo Switch exclusive Fire Emblem: Three Houses has debuted at the top of the UK physical sales charts in its first week, beating its fellow new release Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

That’s a decent achievement for the Switch exclusive given that Wolfenstein: Youngblood has released multi-platform across Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Despite its presence across four different platforms, Wolfenstein: Youngblood didn’t sell as many boxed copies as Fire Emblem and has to settle for second place.

The success of both games means that last weeks top spot holder, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, drops down a place into third, and there are similar one-spot-drops for both Super Mario Maker 2 and FIFA 19, which drop into fourth and fifth respectively. Last weeks new release, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, drops four places into sixth, while Grand Theft Auto V enjoys a decent jump from fourteenth into seventh. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe falls back two places into eighth, relegating F1 2019 down a place into ninth, and Red Dead Redemption 2 takes a five-spot hit to round out the top ten.

Outside of the top ten there are notable jumps for Minecraft (23rd to 11th), Cricket 19 (29th to 16th), and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (31st to 17th), while there are notable drops for a number of titles that benefited greatly from last weeks Amazon Prime Day, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (7th to 32nd) and Sea of Thieves (19th to 38th). It’s a particularly bad week for Mortal Kombat 11, which drops out of the top 40 altogether after managing to nab a place in the top ten last week.

As always, you can check out this weeks top ten below, or you can see the full charts courtesy of UKIE here. As always, remember that only boxed copies of games are counted in these charts, so these positions do not represent all sales.
