Disc-less Xbox One S box art and possible release date leaked

The rumoured disc-less Xbox One S will be called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and could launch as soon as Tuesday 7th May, according to Windows Central.

That information comes by way of their unidentified source who also provided them with pictures of the consoles box. The box indicates that the console will look just like the Xbox One S with the disc drive (and therefore the eject button) removed. It also mentions a 1TB HDD and three games included, namely Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 3.

It seems strange that Microsoft would offer Forza Horizon 3 with a new console rather than Forza Horizon 4, but maybe they’re hoping that people who buy the new console will enjoy Forza Horizon 3 so much that they’ll then buy Forza Horizon 4. After all, the console is being aimed at Xbox newcomers, with Windows Central suggesting that the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will be the cheapest Xbox One console available, which makes sense considering you’re basically getting less for your money.

Microsoft are still yet to acknowledge the rumours of a disc-less Xbox One, but Windows Central reckon that they’re likely to officially announce the console in mid-April. I’m a bit skeptical about how successful the new console will be, as it seems really late in the current generation of consoles lifespan to be putting a new model into the market – a lot of gamers are already settled with their console of choice for this generation and will likely not look to add another console to their collection until next gen.
