Far Cry: New Dawn

Far Cry: New Dawn Revealed

Ubisoft has officially announced Far Cry: New Dawn at this years Game Awards. Set seventeen years after Far Cry 5, New Dawn is a follow-up to the most recent offering in Ubisoft’s first-person shooter franchise, featuring a post-nuclear apocalypse world and some scary looking female twins as the villains.

Check out the setting and some of the characters that inhabit it in trailer below.

Hope County has changed quite a bit during the time-jump between Far Cry 5 and New Dawn. Colourful flowers have blossomed, with spray-painted walls and graffiti matching the plant life to create a neon tune to the world. Weapons have also changed considerably; most look to be custom-made and improvised using items scavenged from the world after the nuclear blast hit. The game’s main villains, The Twins, are leaders of a gang named The Highwaymen, who’s main objective seems to be looting Hope County’s settlements and murdering anyone that dares stand against them. Think The Walking Dead and The Saviours. Yes, we’ve seen it all before, but there’s something about this unfolding in a Far Cry world that’s got us excited.

Friend for Hire will be New Dawns co-op mode, allowing players to progress through the game with a friend. This was a great addition to Far Cry 5. Let’s hope both players can accept quests and progress at the same rate this time around.

There will be more customisation options for your character in New Dawn, allowing players to choose their gender, colour and body type. Players will also begin operations at a home base which, as expected, will be fully upgradeable and will grow stronger as you recruit more people to join your cause. Animals roaming the new world will behave differently too, taking prey back to their dens, for example.

The home base will act as the deployment area for New Dawn’s mission Expeditions. This will be a new feature for the Far Cry series, allowing players to visit areas outside of Hope County. Inside Hope County, the environment has been completely changed after the nuclear event: “All the buildings have been destroyed or refurbished. Some of the zones have been destroyed and you can’t go there anymore. Most of what was there, in terms of size, is there though.” explained Ubisoft.

We were surprised by how good Far Cry: New Dawn looked during its reveal, and we look forward to hearing more of what the new Hope County has in store before it’s release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 15th, 2019.
