Cross-save is coming to Destiny 2 this month

Bungie previously revealed that the much requested feature, ‘cross-save’, would be coming to Destiny 2, but at the time they didn’t offer a release date. However, they have now announced that the feature will be coming this month on August 21st.

This means you’ll be able to take your save from Console to PC and vice versa. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean you’ll be able to ‘cross-play’ which would allow you to play with friends on a different platform, and so far there’s no word on that feature coming to fruition.

This will be exciting news for a lot of players, though it would have been nice to see it added a bit sooner than 2 years after release, but this delay could have been due to Bungie being blocked by Activision. Post-divorce Bungie seem to be a lot more open to highly requested changes, so hopefully this is a taste of what’s to come in future and if so I expect Destiny 3 to be awesome.

Speaking of the Bungie/Activision split, the transition from the Battle.net client to Steam will begin on August 20th, bringing a new feature that will allow players to link their Battle.net account with Steam “to facilitate the transfer of content on 1st October”.

Finally, there’s a few things you should know about the cross-save feature:

  • You will not be able to ‘merge’ accounts, so if you already have an account on Xbox and PC for example you can’t combine these into one account and view a list of all your characters, however, you will be able to turn the cross save feature off allowing you to access your original guardians for each platform but after deactivation you’ll only be able to activate it again after 90 days have passed which Bungie say is “to discourage activity like account recoveries by other players”.
  • Your silver will not migrate with your save (purchased items will) so any silver must be used on the platform you purchased it on

In other Destiny news Destiny 2: New Light will be releasing on October 1st and will bring with it the new free-to-play model which allows players to play Destiny 2 and all of the year one content for free.
