Monster Hunter: World can currently be played for free on PS4

Monster Hunter: World’s first expansion, Iceborne, was announced just a few days ago, and to celebrate PlayStation 4 players can now try out the game for free until Monday 20th May.

The free trial will allow players to create their character and take on most of the content up to Hunter Rank 4, including eight assignments, optional quests, investigations, event quests, and challenge quests. You’ll also experience two of the five “lush” locations that are part of the main story of Monter Hunter: World, namely the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste. Players will be able to “complete quests, explore freely, fulfill delivery requests, gather materials” or “hunt the various monsters that roam around”. That’s the name of the game, after all.

You’ll also be able to take on six large monsters using all 14 weapon types as part of the trial, and there will be tutorial videos and a training area available for you to learn and practice your skills with each weapon. If you’d rather make your own weapon (or upgrade an existing one) then you’ll be able to do so using materials found from questing out in the world, which will allow you to test yourself against “increasingly strong monsters”.

Players will be glad to hear that the trial does support online multiplayer, meaning that most quests can be played by up to four players at once. You’re not restricted to other trial players either, so you’ll be able to play with anybody who owns the full version of the game. If you have a friend that’s been badgering you to play Monster Hunter: World with them on PS4 then this is your perfect opportunity.

As is the norm with free trials now, any player who decides to purchase the full game after playing the trial will be able to carry on from where they left off, as their progress will carry over to the full game.

Monster Hunter: World’s free trial is running from now until Monday 20th May on PlayStation 4.
