Journey made its debut on the PS3 way back in 2012 to widespread critical acclaim. In Journey, players must travel through a vast desert in an effort to reach a distant mountain. Players can randomly join you on your journey, but names aren’t visible and speech isn’t possible; instead, communication is only possible with the use of a single musical chime known as a “ping”.
The game won countless awards, including numerous Game of the Year awards, with particular praise being directed at the games art style and the emotional response that was brought on by working together with a complete stranger without being able to communicate by talking. Official PlayStation Magazine named it as the 5th best PS3 game of all time, which is something that very much shouldn’t be scoffed at.
The game has since become available on both PS4 and, more recently, PC via the Epic Games Store. You can download Journey for iOS for $4.99 here.
