Shenmue 3 gets a new trailer

The development of  Shenmue 3 has been kept pretty much under wraps since the game was first announced back at E3 in 2015. The highly-anticipated game has had a couple of delays since then, but with it’s current release date just a few months away we finally have a new trailer that shows off a bit more of the game, as well as giving us a brief look at the combat.

The two and a half minute trailer may be the most boring trailer of all time, but it does show off a number of series regulars, including Ryo, Shenhua, and antagonist Lan Di, and it also introduces a few new characters, such as a bloke with the weirdest looking chin I’ve ever seen and an old man who seems to have known Ryo’s murdered father. The trailer may give us a slight clue as to the direction that the story will take, with mention of a group of thugs hunting down something called the ‘Phoenix Mirror’.

Our brief look at the games combat comes later on in the trailer when Ryo is seen training with the aforementioned old man who is familiar with his father. I’m somewhat mixed in my feelings on the combat; in parts it looks quite fluid, but in parts it looks a bit stiff. One thing that is for sure is that the whole thing looks like it’s sticking very true to the series roots, which is sure to please Shenmue fans.

Fans of the series have been eagerly-awaiting a third entry in the series ever since Shenmue 2 released on the Dreamcast way back in 2002. Shenmue 3 will finally see the light of day this year following a Kickstarter campaign that went on to become the most-backed video game Kickstarter campaign of all time, raising more than $6.3 million, which absolutely smashed the campaigns target of $2 million.

Shenmue 3 will launch on PS4 and PC on Tuesday 27th August 2019. If you missed out on the classics the first time around then don’t forget that you can pick up the Shenmue 1 & 2 HD Remastered collection on the Xbox One and PS4.
