Sea of Thieves new Black Power Stashes update is live now

Update 2.0.5 is now live on Rare’s Sea of Thieves servers, and with it comes a return to the old monthly content update schedule which will see monthly limited-time content being added to the game.

The first of these updates is titled Black Power Stashes and is live right now! As well as adding new content, the update will also include balance changes and other improvements. The release notes on the Sea of Thieves web page read “Alongside Black Powder Stashes, we’re bringing in a host of game balance, quality of life and accessibility improvements, making this a big update for you to sink your teeth (or ships) into.”

Black Powder Stashes will introduce new and dangerous voyages which can be picked up from Duke at taverns. These voyages will unlock new and unique rewards, and they are repeatable. Reaper’s Black Powder Runs are the more challenging of these voyages, with Smuggler’s Runs offering “less competitive challenge with the same explosive consequences Duke”.

Gunpowder and Stronghold Kegs can be handed over to The Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls and Merchant Alliance Trading Companies for rewards, with the Mysterious Stranger also rewarding Pirate Legends with Athena’s Fortune reputation for handing over Stronghold Kegs.

Mermaid Gems have been scattered across the world and will also grant rewards from the Trading Companies – “Washed up on Islands, inside Skeleton Fort Vaults, inside Sunken Shipwrecks and even inside the bellies of Krakens & Megalodons!”. Finally, new Mercenary Commendations are available to unlock. “Earn Doubloons, unlock Titles and purchase newly available ‘The Inevitable Reaper Flag’, ‘The Inevitable Reaper Sails’ and the ‘Mercenary Figurehead’ for taking part in Duke’s latest challenges.”

Various game balancing changes and quality of life improvements are also included in the Black Power Stashes update. You can read all about these additions here . The Black Power Stashes update is available now and will run until Wednesday14th August, when it will be replaced by August’s update titled Dark Relics.
