Nintendo’s original damsel in distress, Pauline, will be the next playable character in Mario Tennis Aces when she arrives tomorrow.
As always, she’ll be free to all players, and you can unlock her by playing in an online tournament during the month of March. She’ll then be made available to all players on Monday 1st April, as long as Nintendo aren’t playing an April Fools prank on us. Pauline will be a “Speedy” character so she’ll be quick on her feet, but she’s likely to have either reduced power or reach, as is the case with other “Speedy” characters. You can see Pauline in action below.
Pauline first appeared as Mario’s love interest in 1981’s Donkey Kong, but she was ultimately replaced by Princess Peach for Super Mario Bros. Pauline then didn’t appear in a Nintendo title until 2007’s Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Mini’s, and she most recently appeared as the Mayor of New Donk City in Super Mario Odyssey.
Nintendo has also revealed that the next two DLC characters to be added to Mario Tennis Aces free of charge will be Kamek and Dry Bones, who will join the games roster in April and May respectively.
