No Man’s Sky’s spooky new update coming next week

A free update called ‘The Abyss’ (not to be confused with the 1989 James Cameron film of the same name) is on its way to the No Man’s Sky universe and will release next week, just in time for Halloween.

Hello Games really are the developers that keep on giving; No Mans Sky has received so much love since its lacklustre launch in 2016, with the game getting bigger and better with each passing update. It was only a couple of months ago that No Man’s Sky’s largest update yet, titled ‘NEXT’, launched to a mostly positive response, and now with Halloween right around the corner, it makes sense that the latest update to hit the No Man’s Sky universe is a spooky-themed one.

Hello Games announced this latest update today and, with it, the hint of its spooky nature.

‘Whilst most of the team have been busy on weekly updates, a handful have been working on something else, our first titled update since NEXT.’

‘A new free update is releasing next week for all players. We’ve called it The Abyss, because it focuses on some of the eerier elements of No Man’s Sky, in keeping with the theme of this season.’

No actual details on what’s included with the update were announced with the post, but with this being the first named title update since NEXT released, it’s safe to assume that it will feature a lot more content than the average weekly updates.

If you haven’t played No Man’s Sky yet—or you did at launch, only to vow never to pick it up again—then this could be the time to jump in.

The Abyss will launch as a free update to all existing No Man’s Sky players next week.
