Microsoft has announced the list of titles that will be available for free as part of June’s Games with Gold offerings, and it’s a bit of a low-key month.
First up is an offering that will please fans of ice hockey, as EA Sports NHL 19 will be free for the entire month of June. It’s a very recent offering having only released in September of last year and it received impressive reviews at launch, but it is an offering that is bound to get more attention in the United States and Canada rather than here in the UK. Regardless, Ice Hockey is a great sport and the games are usually pretty damn fun, so it’s definitely worth checking it out, particularly when it’s not going to cost you any money.
The second free offering for Xbox One players is Rivals of Aether, an indie fighting game based around the use of the four elements; fire, water, air, and earth. Rivals of Aether released a couple of years back and has proven to be pretty popular, particularly over on Steam where it currently holds a “Very Positive” rating based on 4,680 reviews. Rivals of Aether will be available to download from Sunday 16th June until Monday 15th July.
On the Xbox 360 side of things, Portal: Still Alive is the standout offering. Portal: Still Alive is the 2008 Xbox 360 port of Valve’s 2007 PC classic, Portal. The game tasks players with solving “brain-bending puzzles” by using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device to create portals, all for the ultimate goal of being given cake when all of the puzzles are completed. I’m sure we can all relate to that. Portal: Still Alive will be available to both Xbox 360 owners and Xbox One owners via backwards compatibility from Saturday 1st June until Saturday 15th June.
Finally, Earth Defense Force 2017 will also be available to both Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners from Sunday 16th June until Sunday 30th June. Earth Defense Force 2017 is a third-person shooter that released over a decade ago to somewhat mediocre reviews, giving players the opportunity to…well…defend earth from alien invaders.
Don’t forget that you can still download one of May’s offerings, The Golf Club 2019, until Saturday 15th June.
