New Square Enix RPG, Oninaki, is coming to Switch, PS4, and PC

Square Enix’s new action-RPG, Oninaki, has been announced for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The game was first announced during tonight’s Nintendo Direct presentation, with a trailer that showed off the games protagonist, a “Watcher” who can travel between realms to save the souls of the lost. The trailer also previewed some of the games combat, which appears to be in real time (which will please our very own Ricky) and will feature several different weapons and abilities, all of which are seemingly connected to the different souls that the player has saved throughout their play through. The combat looks pretty fluid, and the game features a pretty nice art style. Check out the trailer below:

The official description for the game reads:

“Players assume the role of a Watcher named Kagachi, doing battle by “manifesting” the souls of Daemons, which act as the classes found in traditional roleplaying games. Each Daemon has its own unique weapons and skills, and players can shift between them in real time to gain the upper hand in battle. Moving between the Living World and the realm of the dead known as the Beyond, Kagachi must save the souls of the Lost, as the story of life and reincarnation in this wondrous kingdom unfolds.”

Oninaki, which is being developed by Tokyo RPG Factory and will be published by Square Enix, will release on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC in Summer 2019.
