Kingdom Hearts 3 epilogue and “secret” video will release as free launch week DLC

Kingdom Hearts 3’s epilogue and a “secret video” will be added to the game for free during the first week of the games release, Square Enix have announced.

This news shouldn’t come as a massive surprise – following a partial leak of the game back in December, Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura specifically mentioned that this content wasn’t in the game yet and that it would be released at a later date to avoid spoilers:

“The game’s epilogue and secret movie, which are the biggest spoilers in this game, are planned to be released at a later date just in case, so they will not be shown before the game’s release.”

What this news does tell us, however, is exactly when that content is coming. According to a string of posts over on the Kingdom Hearts Twitter page, there will be numerous updates in the days following Kingdom Hearts 3 release date of January 29th. The updates are as follows:

  • On Tuesday 29th January (release day) update 1.01 will go live, which will perform several data fixes and add The Memory Archive option which be accessible at any time through the game’s title menu. The Memory Archive will essentially give players a recap of the series so far.
  • On Wednesday 30th January the Epilogue video will be added to the game. To play the Epilogue video players will need to have completed the game and seen the main ending.
  • On Thursday 31st January a secret video will be added. To watch the secret video players will need to have finished Kingdom Hearts 3 and seen the ending, but you’ll also need to have fulfilled certain criteria during play. No details were given as to what exact criteria needed to be fulfilled, but it was implied that the criteria required would depend on the difficulty level that is selected.

While no details have been given about the epilogue or the secret video, Square Enix has said that both videos will “enhance player’s enjoyment of the world of Kingdom Hearts.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will release for the Xbox One and PS4 on Tuesday 29th January 2019.
