Hollow Knight, the popular Metroidvania game, is getting a full sequel titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, developer Team Cherry has announced.
The game was originally intended to be a DLC for Hollow Knight, but it kept growing and growing to the point where it simply became too big to be considered as DLC, so Team Cherry decided to turn it into a full blown sequel, according to the blog post announcing the news.
In Hollow Knight: Silksong, players will take control of Hornet, journeying through “a whole new kingdom haunted by silk and song”. Having been captured and brought to a new world, Hornet must “battle foes and solve mysteries as she ascends on a deadly pilgrimage to the kingdom’s peak”.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will boast new moves, weapons, traps, quests, and over 150 new enemies as players battle their way through a whole new kingdom. There’s also going to be a Challenge Silk Soul mode, which will “spin the game into a unique, challenging experience” once you’ve finished it.
As a nice touch, Team Cherry are showing love to those players that took part in the original games Kickstarter campaign. Players who backed the Kickstarter campaign for the original game will receive a copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong for free, which is a lovely move from Team Cherry. In announcing that news, Team Cherry said:
“Thanks to the incredible support of players and Kickstarter backers, what started out as a tiny game jam idea has become a game bought and played by over 2.8 million people!
As a backer, your support made this happen, so you’ll of course be receiving your copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong 100% free.
But we also know that times change, and the Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming a common (and excellent) console to own. Because of that, any backer of the game from the $10AUD and above tiers can choose to receive their copy of Hollow Knight: Silksong free on either PC or Nintendo Switch, at launch. We’ll shoot out a simple survey as we get closer to release to find out which version you’d like to receive.”
Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on PC and Nintendo Switch on a currently unspecified date. Team Cherry says that a release on other platforms “may happen”, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
