Fortnite patch v7.40 adds Infantry Rifle and offers free Battle Pass

Fortnite’s v7.40 patch is now live, bringing with it the Infantry Rifle and the chance to earn yourself a free Battle Pass.

The offer of a free Battle Pass is tied to Overtime Challenges, which are challenges that are carried over into the upcoming season. Any players who complete 13 of these free Overtime Challenges between now and Wednesday 27th February will receive the upcoming Season 8 Battle Pass for free, instantly unlocking two Season 8 Outfits and giving you the opportunity to earn several more. Lovely stuff. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, the update also brings back Gifting for a limited time, allowing players to send the Heartspan Glider to their favourite person until tomorrow night.

On the weapons front, the Infantry Rifle has been added, which fires quick-moving projectiles without damage falloff, which should make it pretty handy at most ranges. Clingers and Cupids Crossbow have been unvaulted with Grenades taking their place in the vault, and there are several balance changes to various weapons, including an increased reload speed for the Rocket Launcher.

There’s also a new Limited Time Mode called Catch, which removes all guns from the game, leaving players to do battle with grenades and other items that can be thrown or tossed. The only available weapons will be Smoke Grenades, Clingers, Remote Explosives, Port-a-Forts, Impulse Grenades, and Shockwave Grenades, and the circle will close at an increased rate.

There are also a whole host of gameplay tweaks and bug fixes. As always, you can read about them here.
