Players of GTA Online would be forgiven for thinking that Rockstar has forgotten about them, with recent focus being firmly set on the world of Red Dead Online, but GTA hasn’t been forgotten just yet, as the game is getting a new update today.
The update is called Arena War, and it will add a new competitive mode to the game. In a post detailing the update over on their website, Rockstar described how the new mode would allow players to “embark on an entirely new career under the stratospheric dome of the Maze Bank Arena, one that involves turning your opponent’s brains into pulp on the steering wheel in the name of entertainment”. Sounds violent.
The update will add new vehicle types that have been custom built for the Arena, and will introduce “seven explosive new modes”. It appears that progress in the Arena will be kept separate, with Rockstar detailing that you’ll earn Arena Points as you progress which will allow you to rank up and unlock “even more toys to take into the Arena or out onto the streets”.
It’s great to see that Rockstar are still supporting GTA Online in the wake of the monumental success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the ongoing launch of Red Dead Online, which is still very much a work in progress. It’s no big surprise though, as GTA Online has also been a phenomenal success for Rockstar in its own right.
