Giant Squid, the developers behind the fantastic ocean adventure game Abzu, has announced their upcoming title The Pathless at The Game Awards.
Giant Squid Studios was founded by Matt Nava, who’s best known work was with the brilliant smash hit Journey, which he worked on as art director for Thatgamecompany.
Check out the fantastic looking trailer of The Pathless below:
As you can see from the short trailer, The Pathless looks absolutely beautiful. The player controls the Hunter, a master of archery who travels to a mystical island to dispel a curse of darkness that grips the world. The Hunter glides, jumps and dashes through the forest setting with the finesse of a free-runner. It seems like gameplay in the The Pathless will focus heavily on movement, with almost all of the trailer showing the Hunter engaged in travel. The combat animation also looked fantastic, with arrows being fired off at huge enemies whilst on the move.
“Become the Hunter, a master of archery who travels to a mystical island to dispel a curse of darkness that grips the world. Forge a connection with your eagle companion as you hunt corrupted spirits, but be careful to not become the hunted yourself. Explore misty forests full of secrets, solve puzzles in ancient ruins, and test your skill in epic battles. The bond with your eagle and the fate of the world hang in the balance.”
Based on the blurb released, expect to take on this adventure alongside your trusty eagle companion, who can be seen carrying the player into flight in the trailer.
The Pathless is due to launch in 2019 on PlayStation 4 and PC, releasing exclusively on Epic’s new games store. Whether or not this is a permanent exclusive for the Epic Store, or if the game will be available on other platforms as time progresses, remains to be seen.
