Final Fantasy 14’s Shadowbringers expansion detailed

The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest event took place this weekend, and Square Enix used the event to announce the release date of the upcoming expansion for the game, Shadowbringers.

The Shadowbringers expansion will release for PS4 and PC on Tuesday 2nd July, and it will add a number of new areas for players to journey through, including the Rak’Tika Greatwood, Amh Araeng, and II Mheg. There will also be “a plethora of new dungeons to explore”, as well as challenging new 8-player raids. The expansion will also kick off a new alliance raid series which will be known as YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, which will be a crossover with Nier: Automata.

A new playable race known as the Viera (who have bunny ears) are also being added, and there’s a new class called Gunbreaker too. Aside from that there are new beast tribes, namely pixies, dwarves, and Nu Mou, and there will be numerous new trials for players to undertake, including a “harrowing encounter” against Titania, who is the ruler of the aforementioned pixies. Aside from all of this, the level cap is also being increased from 70 to 80.

If all of this is whetting your appetite and you’re suddenly feeling an urge to check out Final Fantasy 14, then the game is currently free for Twitch Prime subscribers on PC until Friday 3rd May. This offer will also give you 30 free days of play time, which will give you plenty of time to hit the base game level cap of 50. The normal free trial of the game only lets you play up to level 35, so this offer is the way forward for Twitch Prime subscribers as you can play all of the base game content unrestricted without spending a penny. Obviously, once your 30 days of free play time is over you’ll need to pay a monthly fee if you want to keep playing, which will you cost you £8.99 a month, and there are also two expansions prior to Shadowbringers that you’ll probably want to check out, namely Heavensward and Stormblood.
