Days Gone debuts at the top of the charts

Days Gone may have received a mixed reaction with critics, but it’s had an impressive start commercially. The latest PS4 exclusive has not only debuted at the top of the UK charts, but it has also achieved the most successful physical launch in the UK so far in 2019.

Mortal Kombat 11which was also a new release last weekhas also debuted in the top 10 having surely benefited from an impressive promotion campaign, but the brutal fighting game has to settle for second place, such is the success of Days Gone. The debut of two new games has pushed FIFA 19 a place down the charts into third, although EA’s football king is still performing well as the football season draws to a close, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has managed to climb a place from last week as it claims fourth spot in this weeks chart.

The Division 2, which claimed third spot last week, has dropped a couple of places into fifth, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has also suffered a two place drop into sixth. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has recovered things a bit this week, rising a place into seventh, and Forza Horizon 4 has reappeared in eighth place. I find it strange that Forza Horizon 4 keeps managing to make an appearance in the top ten given that the game is available on the Xbox Game Pass, as Chart-Track only count physical game sales, so people playing through the Game Pass (which seems like the logical way to play) wouldn’t be counted, and most people playing on the PC would likely buy the game digitally. Whatever the reason, I’m sure that Microsoft must be delighted with the games performance.

Elsewhere in the charts, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has managed to gain a place as it sneaks into ninth, while last weeks newly released chart-topper, World War Z, has crashed back to reality as it falls all the way down to tenth. The big losers this week, however, are Yoshi’s Crafted World, which has dropped nine places from seventh into sixteenth, and Snooker 19, which has rather unsurprisingly slipped a long way into number 21 in the charts having debuted in ninth place last week.
