Crackdown 2

Crackdown 2 free and backwards compatible on Xbox One

Microsoft has added open world action-adventure game Crackdown 2 to it’s Xbox One’s backwards compatibility library, and generously made it free for everyone to download.

Crackdown 2 was released on the Xbox 360 in 2010, taking place 10 years after the events of the popular original. Disappointingly, it wasn’t as well received as the original, with many criticizing the similarities it shared with its predecessor and the absence of a decent story.

In early February, Microsoft offered the original Crackdown for free on the Xbox live Marketplace in anticipation of the release of Crackdown 3. This wasn’t the first time the title had been given away for free, with Microsoft making the game available as a free download a couple of months previous.

Unlike the original Crackdown, Crackdown 2 doesn’t appear to be enhanced for the Xbox One X, with no mention of it being so on the Backward Compatibility list. This is a shame considering how tidy it’s predecessor looked with a little extra polish.

With Crackdown 3 releasing on the Xbox Game Pass service in February and the other two games in the series being free, gamers can now enjoy the Crackdown trilogy for next to nothing, especially given how many subscription deals are available for the Xbox Game Pass. So if you haven’t experienced them yet, this might be the perfect time to start collecting orbs.
