Remedy has detailed the post-launch content that Control players can look forward to over the next year, revealing two paid-for expansions and a new game mode.
First up will be a Photo Mode which will be added to the game in a free update at some point in the Autumn, and that will be followed in December by a new game mode called Expeditions. Remedy says that Expeditions will be a “challenging new end-game mode” in which players must help Security Chief Arish explore the Formation and its surroundings. Expeditions will throw the games “greatest challenges” at you, so players will need to be well geared up and have the strongest abilities to be able to complete it.
Once those free updates are out of the way, there will be two paid-for expansions releasing in 2020. The first of these is called The Foundation, which releases in early 2020 and will “delve into the history of the Oldest House” as Jesse explores what lies beneath the Bureau at the request of Board. The second expansion is coming in mid 2020 and is titled AWE, which will see Jesse venture into the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House. As well as providing these new locations to explore, both expansions will also add “new story missions, enemies, and game mechanics”.
Interestingly, although no mention of it is made in the public announcement, Eurogamer claims that the press releases discreetly states that the first expansion, The Foundation, will release on PlayStation 4 first, while “The Season Pass and individual Expansions will be available for purchase on Xbox One and PC, following the PlayStation 4 Expansion 1 ‘The Foundation’ release,”. That suggests that Sony has bagged timed-exclusive rights to The Foundation, although there’s no information on exactly how long that exclusivity will last. The second expansion, AWE, will be available on all platforms on the same date.
Control is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
