Civilization 6 gets cross platform cloud saves for PC and Switch

2K has rolled out a new update to Civilization 6 on PC and Switch which introduces cross play cloud saves. This means that you’ll be able to start a game on the PC and if you need to leave for any reason (maybe your Mrs wants the TV back) then you can pick up where you left off on the Switch or vice versa.

This is a great new feature and it would be awesome if more games had it. For example, I would love to be able to play my Prison Architect or Moonlighter game on both the PC and Switch. To enable this new feature, all you have to do is sign in to both devices using your 2K account and enable online saves.

There is one caveat, however. At the moment, the Switch doesn’t have any of the two expansions that the PC version has, which means you can only play vanilla game saves on the Switch. However, the DLC is coming to the Switch at some point. This could prevent a lot of people using this feature right away, as for a 6-year old game most people will be making full use of the DLC, but it’s good to know this is in place for when the DLC does finally launch on the Switch. As a side note, the first major update for the Gathering Storm expansion is now live, making all kinds of balance changes including reduced damage to population and structures from Blizzards by about a third and a reduction of Dust Storm yields by 33%. You can read the full patch notes here, but if you’d rather have the changes read out to you by Franchise Lead Designer, Ed Beach, then check out the developer update video below.

The update is now live.
