Blizzard not working on Diablo 3 cross-play after all

Last week, a Blizzard representative mentioned that cross-platform play for Diablo 3 was “a question of when, not if.” The report also mentioned that the studio was actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable the feature. With Sony’s recent re-think on cross-play with Fortnite, this wasn’t that surprising to hear. Sadly it now seems it might not happen at all.

Blizzard has now issued a statement regarding cross-platform play for Diablo 3, and unfortunately, it’s not the news we were hoping to hear. Sadly it seems cross-platform play with Diablo 3 isn’t a feature that Blizzard is currently working on.

“While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time,” said a Blizzard representative.

This will come as disappointing news to Nintendo Switch owners especially.  With ‘Diablo 3: Eternal Collection’ dropping on November 2nd, those Switch owners that were hoping to play with their friends on other platforms in the future will now have to re-think those plans.

Let’s keep our collective fingers crossed that we see more games being opened up to cross-play.
