Baldur’s Gate and other classics to get enhanced console release

In a surprise announcement today, developer Beamdog and publisher Skybound Gameswho have forged somewhat of a reputation for bringing enhanced versions of Dungeons & Dragons games to the PCwill bring enhanced editions of classic PC games to console.

Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Neverwinter Nights are the classics in question, with each heading to console for the very first time. No news was revealed on exactly what consoles the classic games will release on, but needless to say, we’re hoping a Nintendo Switch port is included in the plan.

Baldur’s Gate seems to be getting the most love in it’s enhanced version, with Baldur’s Gate 2, expansion Siege of Dragonspear, and Icewind Dale also on their way.

The enhanced versions are set to launch later this year, with both digital and physical releases planned.

Ian Howe, CEO at Skybound Games spoke today about the news:

“We’re excited to bring Beamdog’s incredible slate to new platforms for both the dedicated fan and those who will soon discover these adventures for the first time. As longtime fans of Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons it’s fantastic to partner with Beamdog as the newest member of the Skybound family.”

Skybound Games are set to have a booth at PAX East at the end of next month, so if you’re eager for more news on these classic RPG’s or for details on other major gaming news from the event, check back in with us between March 28th and March 31st.
