How to get the exotic SMG ‘The Chatterbox’ in The Division 2

Exotic weapons are rather few and far between in The Division 2, currently there’s only one exotic for each weapon class. The good thing, however, is that most of these special weapons are pretty simple to obtain. In this guide I’ll be showing you how to get your hands on the Exotic SMG called ‘The Chatterbox’. First though, let’s take a look at how the weapon looks and its unique talents:

  • Incessant Chatter: Every shot landed grants 1 percent rate of fire to a max of 60 percent. This resets on reload.
  • Box Magazine: Kills with this weapon refill 20 percent of its magazine and grant a buff for 10 seconds. While the buff is active, every shot landed increases magazine capacity by 1 to a max of 60. Killing a target consumes the buff to fully refill the increased magazine.
  • Blabbermouth: While holstered, reloading your weapon within 5 seconds after a kill grants 20 percent rate of fire for 10 seconds.

The Chatterbox is one of my favourite weapons in The Division 2. The crazy thing about that statement is that I barely use the thing! That’s because although a very good weapon, the real strength of The Chatterbox comes from its holstered talent, Blabbermouth.

As you can see, Blabbermouth grants a 20% rate of fire boost after reloading your weapon within 5 seconds of a kill. This is basically a 20% damage increase when active, and believe me, you completely shed enemies when Blabbermouth is up.

The other talents are also really good, offering a weapon that if used and set-up with the correct build will very rarely need to be reloaded. The rate of fire boost from Incessant Chatter is also excellent – if you manage to get this thing firing at the max boost your enemies really don’t stand a chance.

So, let’s talk you through how to get The Chatterbox:

Step One – Farm Keys

  • Underground areas

This step assumes that you don’t have that many Hyena keys (if you have 4 or more, skip this step completely until you need to farm more in the future). The best way to farm these keys is to first get the visible loot buff from a friendly Control Point. You get this by donating resources to the marked NPC. This buff isn’t essential but it will help you see the key boxing on the walls of the underground areas that you will need to visit next. Bring up the map and head to an underground area. Once there, you want to look out for the key boxes on the walls, loot them until you gather enough Hyena Keys, and head to Step Two.

Now you have the keys, you’re ready to start opening Hyena boxes. Three different Hyena controlled areas contain the three different parts needed to make The Chatterbox.

Step Two – Loaded Canister

  • Downtown East (Grand Washington Hotel)

Head to the Grand Washington Hotel mission, which you can play on any difficulty. Play through the mission until you climb the stairs that lead to the outside rooftop area and the boss battle. To the right will be the box, open it with a Hyena key and hopefully get the first part of The Chatterbox – The Loaded Canister

If you were unlucky and didn’t receive it during the mission, don’t worry. You can run the mission again in 24 hours and the box will refresh. If you can’t wait that long, check out this link to a Division map that you can follow to open other boxes in the Downtown East area.

Step Three – Creative Magazine

  • Federal Triangle (Jefferson Trade Centre)

The next part comes from Hyena boxes in the Federal Triangle area. Head to the Jefferson Trade Centre mission, again this can be played on normal if you wish. When you finish clearing out the garage of enemies, you’ll find a Hyena box to the right of the double doors you need to go through to continue the mission. If you’re lucky, the box will contain the Creative Magazine.

Again, If you didn’t pick the mag up from the mission box, check out the map for the location of additional boxes, or wait 24 hours for the reset.

Step Four – Modified Mods

  • Judiciary Square (District Union Arena Stronghold)

The last weapon part can be found in the Judiciary Square area of the map. Head to the District Union Arena Stronghold. Work your way through the level until you come to the mall. After defeating all the enemies you’ll find the Hyena box to the left of the room in front of the escalators. This box will drop the Modified Mods.

As with the other weapon parts, if unsuccessful just return in 24 hours and try again. If waiting around isn’t for you, then check the map for the locations of additional Hyena boxes in the area.

Step Five – Blueprint

  • Bank HQ

Now that you have all 3 pieces, you’re going to need the actual blueprint to craft the weapon. Head to Bank HQ and kill the mini boss named Rebound who will drop a keycard on top of the normal loot.

Next, head to the room to the left side of the elevators and open the hidden panel to receive an additional keycard for the vault room.

Once you have the extra keycard, follow the mission directions down to the vault, turning left after you open the main vault door. Inside the room will be a Hyena box that hopefully will drop you the Blueprint.

You’ll need all three parts of the Chatterbox to receive the Blueprint. If you don’t get it first time, you’ll need to return in 24 hours and try again.

Step Six – Craft

  • Base of Operations

Now you have all the parts and the blueprint for The Chatterbox, all that’s left is to craft it. Visit the crafting table at The White House and The Chatterbox is yours!

Step Seven – Upgrade

  • Base of Operations

Now you have The Chatterbox, the final thing to do is upgrade it to a gearscore 500 weapon. To do this, you’ll need to purchase the upgraded blueprint. Luckily this is sold by the vendor right next to the crafting table. You will need various materials to upgrade your Chatterbox, as well as the original weapon. The most difficult of these materials to obtain are the exotic parts, which come from dismantling exotic weapons.

So that concludes my step by step guide to obtaining the Chatterbox. If you haven’t done already, I highly recommend you commit the time to farm for this weapon – doing so is actually pretty simple!
