Just yesterday, we brought you the news that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds would finally be debuting on PS4 in December, and we predicted that Microsoft would react in some way to try and keep Xbox as the best place to play PUBG.
Now, it would appear that Xbox has reacted, as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently free to download from the Microsoft Store for a limited time. Please note, this means that you can download and play the game for free for a limited time, but you don’t get to keep it. When this time period expires, you will need to purchase the game if you wish to keep playing.
It’s essentially an extended demo, then, but it’s a perfect opportunity for new players to try out the game before deciding to make the purchase. It follows on from Microsoft’s announcement that there will be some big PUBG news at their X018 show which will take place this weekend.
Tune in to #X018 at 3 PM CT November 10 for:
?Big #PUBG news
?The Forge expansion for Shadow of the #TombRaider
?#StateofDecay2 updates
?And more exclusive lookshttps://t.co/II5cAODlxn pic.twitter.com/7P0csGpVba— Xbox (@Xbox) November 5, 2018
It’s clear to us that Microsoft is doing all that it can to maintain—and possibly increase—its player base on PUBG on Xbox One as the PS4 release approaches, and we look forward to seeing what they have in store for us over the weekend. There is no information on exactly how long PUBG will be free for, as of yet, so make sure to grab yourself a chicken dinner while you can.
