Yesterday, we brought you the news that PUBG is currently free to download from the Microsoft Store for a limited time – great news if you’ve completed Red Dead Redemption 2 and are looking for something to keep you busy this weekend. If you’re more of a sports fan, however, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 is also free to download at the moment for a limited time.
What’s great about these limited offers is, both of these games only require Xbox Live membership and not a Gold membership to play, meaning free really does mean free! We’re hoping that this is the start of something on Xbox Live and that we see more highly-rated games heading our way for free playtime in the future.
If you’re unsure about PES—or have been put off by all the talk of FIFA taking the title of the best football game for the last however many years—this is a great opportunity to give it a go. Our very own football fanatic, Chris, enjoyed his time playing PES, as did many other critics, with the game reaching a Metascore of 79 over at metacritic. It arguably plays a better game of football on the pitch than FIFA, only being let down by the licencing issues and features. These are all pretty simple to overlook if you’re a purest, and care more for substance than style.
Both Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are free for this weekend only, with a purchase required to continue playing after the weekend is over. Enjoy them both while you can!
