The Switch exclusive Tetris 99 is getting its very own in-game tournament, with 999 prizes up for grabs in Europe and each prize rewarding players with 999 My Nintendo Gold Points.
My Nintendo Gold Points are Nintendo’s reward currency. You usually get them as reward points when making a purchase on the Nintendo store and each point is worth 1 penny, which means that each prize in the Tetris 99 tournament is worth £9.99.
To win, all you have to do is win a game of Tetris 99 between 1:00pm on Friday 8th March and 7:00am on Monday 11th March. You will then be entered into a draw where 999 players will be selected at random; if fewer than 999 players manage to win a game then everyone who has won will receive a prize. If you’re playing in the US then the rules are slightly different for you – instead of having to win one game to be entered into a randomly selected prize draw, the prizes will go to whoever wins the most games.
If you haven’t played Tetris 99 before and you own a Switch then this is the perfect time to give it a try, it’s not only free but also a fun take on the classic Tetris game that we all know and love. You’ll be battling it out with 99 other players to see who can last the longest and, in a fun take on the classic game, you’re able to attack other players by sending junk onto their board and likewise they will be able to attack you too. It’s a very fast-paced game and if you’re a fan of both the classic Tetris games and battle royale games then you will love it:
I personally have been playing it quite a lot as it’s a great game to pick up and play for 10 minutes. However, it has made me realise I’m not quite as good at Tetris as I thought I was as I’m still waiting to get my first win, so I don’t think I have any chance of winning a prize any time soon. Anyway, I’m off to practice.
