Anthem is causing some real problems for PS4 owners. More specifically, it’s crashing consoles.
I’m not just talking occasional disconnects, or even the odd crash where the game freezes, I’m talking about Anthem crashing so severely that it shuts down the entire console. Some players are even claiming that the crashes have “bricked” their consoles, which essentially means it breaks them altogether and makes them completely unusable.
In reporting the bricking of a console, Reddit user TheMadTitanGauntlet said:
“My playstation has been completely bricked to the point of not even turning on because of Anthem. I’m not looking for any sympathy or anything. This post is mainly being made to warn people that this could potentially damage your console to the dreaded point of no return. I’ve been talking on the phone with Playstation support for a little over 2 hours now,but unfortunately theres nothing they can do (or nothing they’re willing to do).”
That’s a worrying thing to read for any PS4 users who are playing Anthem, and a few others have claimed to have had similiar experiences, although there has been no proof of it so far. The issue of PS4’s shutting down has been reported widely though, with many players claiming that the sudden shutdown of the console causes it to take a few minutes before it can turn back on, and some have even reported their console launching in Safe Mode. EA have actually acknowledged the crashing issue over on Twitter:
We’re aware of a crashing issue some of you have been reporting for #AnthemGame. We’re investigating and ask that you share your crash data reports when prompted. If you have, we’ll be reaching out to gather info; if not, please reply to this thread on AHQ:https://t.co/36P21YFjYL

Additionally, EA is asking players to report any crashing issues and the circumstances surrounding them over on the games Technical Issues forum. Some players are claiming that Sony themselves has issued them refunds for the game with relative ease, but others are reporting that Sony completely turned them away, so it’s hard to say where players stand on that front.
It’s another stumbling block for Anthem, which has had a far from perfect launch so far, with numerous issues being reported and the game itself receiving a mixed critical reception. We’ve been playing the game on the Xbox One and haven’t experienced any such issues on that platform so far, but we’ll keep you updated if we do hit any snags.
