Red Dead Online update adds Evans Repeater and Fool’s Gold

Rockstar has released a new update for Red Dead Online, adding the previously announced Fool’s Gold Free Roam event and a new weapon, namely the Evans Repeater.

You may recognise the name of that weapon, and that’s because it was a rare, powerful weapon in the original Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar describes the Evans Repeater as “a powerful long-range rifle” that has “a high bullet capacity” and is “deadly at medium and long distances, with an especially high rate of fire”. The weapon will also have numerous customization options such as Stocks, Sights, and Wraps. The Evans Repeater is available from The Wheeler, the Rawson & Co catalogue, or at any Gunsmith.

As previously described, Fool’s Gold will see players compete for control of a golden armour set, with players that are in control of it earning points for each kill. Players that don’t currently possess the armour can earn points too, but only by killing the player that is armoured up. To join a game of Fool’s Gold players just need to accept the alert when it pops up during Free Roam – the mode can be played as individual free-for-alls or as skirmishes between Posses, which can be joined by the Posse leader who will take the whole Posse into the game with them.

As a thank you for player support, Rockstar are also offering all who play Red Dead Online this week a free care package that can be redeemed at any camp lockbox or at a post office. These care packages are, according to Rockstar, “a show of our appreciation”, and they will contain the following items:

  • 60x High Velocity Pistol Ammo
  • 60x High Velocity Repeater Ammo
  • 2x Fire Bottles
  • 8x Fire Arrows
  • 2x Jolly Jack’s
  • 2x Potent Horse Medicine
  • 1x Lake Lure

Additionally, all players who complete five daily challenges between now and Monday 11th March will receive a Special Spinner next week, which is a fishing lure that can’t be lost if you cut the line.

This latest Red Dead Online update is now available on both PS4 and Xbox One. As always, you can read the full details of the update here.
