Chris Avellone confirms his involvement in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Veteran game writer and designer Chris Avellone has confirmed that he has been working on the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Avellone’s confirmation came by way of a reply to a fan over on Twitter, where he confirmed that he had just finished his work on the game and that he’s also working on a currently secret game that he can’t talk about. Check out the tweet below:

Avellone’s LinkedIn profile reveals a bit more about his involvement in Respawn Entertainment’s highly-anticipated game between February 2018 and January 2019, confirming that Avellone contributed to the story, story and character reviews, and wrote cinematic scripts for the game during his eleven months of working on the title. His full LinkedIn post relating to his Fallen Order work reads:

Narrative Designer/Writer (contractor) did story work, story/character reviews, and wrote cinematic scripts for Jedi: The Fallen Order. For those not in the know, Jedi are basically space monks who use telekinesis, mind control, and occasional bursts of lasersword violence in order to impose their values on the rest of the galaxy.

Not much is known about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order yet other than that it will be released in late 2019, but Avellone’s involvement is sure to make an already highly-anticipated title even more sought after. Avellone has worked on the Star Wars franchise before as Lead Writer/Designer on 2004’s fantastic Knights of the Old Republic 2, and he’s also well known for his work on the likes of the Baldur’s Gate series, Fallout: New Vegas, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Pillars of Eternity, Prey, and the upcoming Dying Light 2. Those games are all lore-heavy, so it indicates that Avellone’s involvement will lead to similar levels of compelling storytelling in Jedi: Fallen Order.

It seems that Respawn Entertainment may be recruiting the best of the best as they venture into slightly unknown territory; Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be a single-player only experience, whereas Respawn are best known for multiplayer titles Titanfall and Apex Legends, although Titanfall 2 did feature a decent story. It’s good to see that Avellone will be involved in the project, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the game develops as more details are revealed. While not much is currently known about the game, EA has confirmed that more details will be released at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which takes place from Thursday 11th April to Monday 15th April. A Jedi: Fallen Order panel is expected to take place on Saturday 13th April, so expect that to be when further details are announced. As always, we’ll keep you updated as and when those details are announced.
