Anthem holds on to the top spot in the UK charts

BioWare’s loot shooter Anthem has managed to hold its position at the top of the UK Charts, according to our friends over at Chart-Track.

That may come as a bit of a surprise to some people considering the somewhat mixed reaction that the game has been receiving and the disappointing numbers that the game sold the previous week despite hitting top spot, but it is likely helped by the fact that there were no new triple-A games released last week. Anthem remains the main point of conversation in gaming circles and that is likely to have helped the games sales. That said, it’s always important to remember that Chart-Track only counts physical copies of games sold, so this chart shouldn’t be considered as representative of all game sales – it is possible that a different game outsold Anthem digitally.

Elsewhere in the charts, last weeks runner-up, Far Cry: New Dawn, has dropped a place into second, switching places with this weeks runner-up FIFA 19, which is obviously still managing to sell strongly despite being six months old.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame, which launched last week shortly after the films release, has debuted in fourth place, relegating the fantastic Red Dead Redemption 2 into fifth place. Another new release, Dirt Rally 2.0, has managed to make it into the top 10 by debuting in sixth, while Metro Exodus drops a couple of places into seventh. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has continued its long streak in the charts by maintaining its position in eighth, and fellow Nintendo Switch must-have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate gains a place as it steps up into ninth. Trials Rising: Gold Edition, Ubisoft’s new motorcycle racing sequel to 2014’s Trials Fusion, debuts in tenth place.

For those who are interested in where other games ranked, GTA V sits just outside of the top 10 in eleventh, while last weeks sixth place title, Forza Horizon 4, has dropped ten places into 16th. Similarly, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe has also suffered a ten place drop from seventh into seventeenth. Crackdown 3, meanwhile, which missed out on the top 10 in its first week of release and only managed to sit in 26th last week has now managed to miss out on the top 40 altogether. Oh dear.
