Popular online games have been plagued with hackers and cheats for as long as I can remember, and in competitive games such as Apex Legends it can be extremely frustrating for law abiding citizens. Luckily, Respawn know this and have already acted on over 16,000 players that have been caught cheating by serving them up a ban hammer.
16,000 players is a lot for a game that’s only been out for a mere two weeks, but with over 25 million players now the percentage of cheaters is still tiny (0.064% to be exact). Respawn have been quick to point out that it does largely rely on the community to report cheaters, so they have made a plea to all players to let them know if they spot a cheater – even if you don’t have any proof, send them the suspected cheaters ID/Gamertag and they can investigate.
To report a cheater you have to make use of a third party website, however, in a Reddit post they did hint that an in-game report feature is currently in the works. Speaking on the matter, Respawn said the following:
“We have heard your feedback about a report feature in the game. I’ll just say that’s a very good idea :)”
One thing which may be sad news to players who have come across a cheat (but great news for many more players) is that cheating isn’t on the top of their agenda. Instead, Respawn has crashes and bugs as their main priority:
“As you can imagine, when you drop your game out of nowhere and 25 million people show up in the first week, there’s going to be all kinds of issues, bugs, exploits, etc. discovered,”
“Improving stability, performance, and quality of life is a big priority for us and we have a lot of work to do,”
A new patch for Apex Legends is due out next week which should solve a lot of the crash issues people are facing, but as always, be sure to report any crashes you experience, as this is how the game is made better – if they don’t know about it they can’t fix it.
