Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was confirmed as coming and as being a Nintendo Switch exclusive back at The Games Awards in December. Nintendo showed off some more footage of their upcoming superhero action game during tonight’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
The footage slated the game as having a Summer 2019 launch window, and multiplayer will be ever-present in the game, with players able to play co-operatively through local play on four Switch consoles or online. We saw glimpses of several Marvel characters that will feature in the game, including the Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, The Defenders, The Avengers, Venom, and a bit of an extended look at Captain Marvel in action, which is pretty convenient considering her film is out next month.
Characters will level up as you play, unlocking new abilities that they can use on the fly, and each hero will have an “Alliance Extreme Attack” which will act as somewhat of an ultimate ability. When playing alongside others, these abilities can be combined to create “Synergy Attacks”, and you can also combine Alliance Extreme Attacks to perform an “Ultimate Alliance Extreme Attack”, which looked pretty cool.
Players will be going up against The Black Order and villian-of-the-year Thanos, as they do battle for the “the limitless power of the Infinity Gauntlet, one Stone at a time.” That should allow for ultimate Avengers: Endgame cash-in potential, as that film releases in April. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will be the first game in the series for a decade when it launches later this year, and I think it could rake in a lot of cash for Nintendo with it coming so soon after the release of Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2019.
