A new trailer for the upcoming Streets of Rage 4 was shown off during Nintendo’s Indie World livestream earlier today, revealing that Adam Hunter will be returning from the first game. Check out the trailer below to see Adam in action, who doesn’t seem to have skipped a beat despite his 28-year absence:
Adam was one of the three playable characters in the original Streets of Rage (and my go-to character), alongside Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, who also both make their return in Streets of Rage 4. While Axel and Blaze also appeared in Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3, Adam was replaced in the sequels by his younger brother, Eddie, who was better known as Skate (who similarly became my go-to character). The three returning characters from the original will be joined in Streets of Rage 4 by Adam’s daughter, Cherry Hunter, who fights while carrying her electric guitar.
The more I see of Streets of Rage 4 the more I can’t wait to play it. My Sega Mega Drive was constantly occupied by a Streets of Rage cartridge during my childhood, and the new entry in the series looks like it will feature the same brand of addictive combat and a similarly badass soundtrack, and now we have some snazzy new visuals to go with it. I can’t wait.
Streets of Rage 4, the first entry in the series in 15 years, is being developed by Lizardcube, Guard Crush, and Dotemu, and is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in the first half of 2020.
