Frontier Developments’ theme park simulation game, Planet Coaster, will launch for PS4 and Xbox One next Summer, it has been announced.
First released for PC back in 2016, Planet Coaster picked up a strong critical reception, with particular praise being levelled at the games creation tools. Planet Coaster has also been a commercial success, with over two million copies sold so far. On Steam, the game currently holds a rating of “Very Positive” from 23,651 reviews. Not bad.
Planet Coaster will obviously appeal mostly to fans of simulation games, particularly those who are fond of the likes of Two Point Hospital or Bullfrog classics Theme Hospital and, in particular, Theme Park. In a post announcing the console edition, Frontier Developments said:
“Build jaw dropping, white knuckle rollercoasters that challenge the law of physics and stomachs alike, place an empire of food, gift and merchandise shops, add exhilarating rides and hire a crack team of coaster park staff to help deliver the ultimate experience for visitors in this thrilling management simulation.
The living, breathing world of Planet Coaster combines physics driven realism, piece by piece construction and advanced simulation to offer control over every aspect of your park.”
Frontier also noted that the console edition will “include free content and features that have been added to the game since launch”, so console players should be as current as PC players as soon as the game launches. What exactly this means for premium DLC I don’t know, but I’m presuming that all of this will be available to purchase at launch too if you so wish, but we’ll have to wait and see.
If all of that isn’t enough to get you excited then here’s the announcement trailer, accompanied by some bloody lovely music which is sure to put a smile on your face:

There’s also a mini-review of the game hidden in there, where Ricky described the game as “like the original Theme Park, but better”. Brilliant.
