Rust is coming to PS4 and Xbox One next year

Rust, the hugely popular survival game from Facepunch Studios, is coming to PS4 and Xbox One next year.

Originally released as a clone of Day-Z, Rust is an unforgiving multiplayer survival game which came out of early access in 2018, featuring enhanced crafting and survival mechanics. The games Steam description, which you can read below, sums it up pretty nicely:

“The only aim in Rust is to survive. To do this you will need to overcome struggles such as hunger, thirst and cold. Build a fire. Build a shelter. Kill animals for meat. Protect yourself from other players, and kill them for meat. Create alliances with other players and form a town. Do whatever it takes to survive.”

Despite receiving a relatively mixed critical reception, Rust has been very popular among players, amassing around 8 million players so far. Despite its harsh and unforgiving nature where everything can be taken away from you in an instant, the games popularity is likely due to the ability for players to create their own stories based on their encounters with other players, whether that encounter be friendly or deadly. It’s usually deadly, mind you.

Although not much is known about the console version as of yet, we do know that servers will hold up to 100 players, and console players will be able to rent their own servers to tweak the settings to their own preferences.

Rust will launch for PS4 and Xbox One next year. No official date was given, but we’ll keep you updated as and when that information becomes available.
