Capcom has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for their upcoming Resident Evil game, Project Resistance, confirming that the game will be a “brand-new team-based survival horror experience”.
Of course, that doesn’t come as any big surprise following some pretty blurry leaked screenshots from the trailer a couple of weeks back which pointed towards the game being a co-op survival game similar in tone to 2003’s Resident Evil Outbreak, but it’s always good to get some official confirmation straight from the horses mouth. The trailer, which you can now watch below in glorious 1080p, shows four unnamed characters being ambushed by a number of familiar nasties in some kind of research facility. Eventually fighting off the hordes of enemies, they are finally confronted by the instantly recognisable and pretty damn intimidating Mr. X, who is fresh in players minds following the release of the Resident Evil 2 Remake earlier this year.
The trailer doesn’t give any specific information about the game, but Capcom is promising to show off some gameplay at the Tokyo Game Show later this week, which runs from Thursday 12th September until Sunday 15th September. Residents of Japan will also be able to get hands-on with the game during the event as long as they have pre-registered.
Ignoring the fact that the leaks pretty much confirmed this news anyway, it doesn’t surprise me that Capcom has decided to take the Resident Evil series down the co-op survival route once more. The likes of Left 4 Dead are still fondly remembered by players, and the recent success of World War Z will have garnered the attention of publishers, so it makes sense to take an established franchise down a path that Capcom knows there is an interest for.
Project Resistance will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC, but no release date has been announced as of yet. As always, we’ll keep you updated as and when that information becomes available.
