Last week we told you that Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 was the standout offering in the July line-up of free games for PS Plus subscribers. Well, in a pretty unprecedented move, Sony has decided to pull it from the line-up without explanation.
It’s not all bad news though, as Sony has replaced PES 2019 with the Deluxe Edition of Quantic Dream’s critically-acclaimed 2018 title Detroit: Become Human. In an update to a blog post earlier today, Sony said:
“We are making a swap to the PS Plus games lineup for July. This month, we are adding Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, which also includes Heavy Rain (Beyond Two Souls), to the July games lineup instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
It’s strange to see a last-minute change made like this with no explanation, but it did surprise me that such a recent release (and the current version of PES) was being offered out for free. The flip side of this, of course, is that you get the Deluxe Edition of Detroit: Become Human, which received great reviews when it released a little over a year ago. As mentioned in Sony’s blog post update, the added benefit of that is that the Deluxe Edition comes bundled with Heavy Rain, so you’re effectively getting two games in one.
This change doesn’t affect the other free offering, Horizon Chase Turbo, which will still be available to download for the grand total of nothing alongside Detroit: Become Human from Tuesday 2nd July until Monday 5th August.
