PES 2019 headlines July’s free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers

Sony has announced the free games that will be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers in July, and it may just fill a football-related void in your life.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 is the standout offering, and it’ll go free on Tuesday 2nd July until Monday 5th August. That means that it goes free on the same day as the first round of semi-finals in the Women’s World Cup, and the final is just a few days later. That leaves a big football-related hole in all of our lives between then and the start of the new season in mid-August, so checking out Konami’s most recent offering could be the perfect way to get your football fix for a few weeks. While it’s great to see such a recent game being offered out for free, it’s surely indicative of PES 2019’s lackluster sales figures as it continues to be dwarfed by FIFA 19, continually plagued by dreadful menu’s and major licensing issues which are hard to look past in this day and age. Regardless, the game plays a tremendous game of football, so if you are able to ignore the flaws then you’re sure to be very impressed.

The second free offering is Horizon Chase Turbo, the racing game from Acquiris Game Studio that started out as a mobile game in 2015 before being revamped for current gen consoles last year. The game takes noticeable inspiration from classic arcade racers like Out Run, and features a great soundtrack and nice aesthetics as well as both local and online multiplayer, so there’s plenty of fun to be had. Horizon Chase Turbo will also be available to PS Plus subscribers from Tuesday 2nd July until Monday 5th August.

Don’t forget that you can still download June’s offerings, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania, until Monday 1st July.
