Activision has officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare following last weeks leaks, confirming that the game will launch on Friday 25th October.
The game, which will act as a dark reboot for the Modern Warfare series, will feature a “visceral and dramatic” single-player campaign—which is sure to please players who were frustrated at the lack of a single-player mode in Black Ops 4—and the series classic multiplayer, as well as co-op multiplayer being available through “elite operations”. Better yet, the game will do away with the series archaic season pass, meaning that all post-launch content such as new maps will be free to all players. Are they finally listening?
You can check out the trailer for the game below, which features a very familiar face:
Yep, Captain Price is back, and there’s more good news too. The game will utilize a brand new engine, which Activision says will deliver an “immersive and photo-realistic experience”, and the game will feature cross-play support, with Infinity Ward Creative Director and co-Studio Head, Patrick Kelly, saying: “every design decision has been made with our players in mind. With the launch of Modern Warfare, we’re taking steps to unite the community. First, we plan for Modern Warfare to be played together across PC and console through cross-play support.”
Speaking on the game, Kelly’s fellow co-Studio Head, Dave Stohl said:
“This is an all-new Modern Warfare reimagined in every way. We are creating an emotionally charged experience that’s inspired by the headlines in the world today, where the rules are grey and battle lines are blurred. Players will join a varied cast of international special forces and freedom fighters in gripping and heart-pounding missions through iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East. It’s intense, it’s exciting, and we can’t wait for our fans to play this October.”
I have to admit, this has got me pretty excited for Call of Duty again – could this finally be a real return to form for the franchise?
If anybody was wondering, there has been no word on any kind of battle royale mode yet, but you can be sure to expect more details on both the games single-player and multiplayer modes in the coming months.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch for Xbox One, PS4, and PC (where it will be available exclusively through Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher) on Friday 25th October.
