Blizzard has released a new cinematic for World of Warcraft, showing the return of former Horde Warchief, Thrall.
We already knew that Thrall would be returning to the game in the upcoming Rise of Azshara patch after he showed up on the public test realm when the patch was being tested. In the update, players will partake on a quest to save Baine Bloodhoof, a Horde leader imprisoned in the dungeons of Orgrimmar while he awaits execution at the hands of controversial current Horde Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner. That quest will require players to fight through parts of the Siege of Orgrimmar raid, where they will come across some like-minded adventurers who are also trying to save Bloodhoof. Two of those people will be Jaina Proudmore and Mathias Shaw of the Alliance, while the other two are Varok Saurfang and Thrall.
The new cinematic shows Varok Saurfang travelling to Outland to recruit Thrall to his cause, finding him living in a remote, idyllic location where he has seemingly been since the Legion expansion in 2016. In the very well made cinematic which you can see below, Saurfang speaks to Thrall about the path of destruction that Sylvanas Windrunner is on, effectively asking him for his help in overthrowing her. Thrall reiterates that he no longer wants to lead the Horde, to which Saurfang replies “I didn’t ask, but I hoped you would at least fight for it”. At this point, the duo are ambushed by a pair of Undead assassins, and after quickly dispatching them Thrall accuses Varok of being followed, to which Varok replies “I followed them”, implying that Sylvanas Windrunner had sent them to assassinate Thrall and his family.
At this point, Varok tells Thrall that the two of them don’t get to hide, which seemingly strikes a chord with Thrall, who goes to fetch a hidden weapon and seemingly prepares to fight alongside Varok.
It’s a great cinematic that is sure to get players in the mood for the update, and has had me wishing that Blizzard themselves had made the movie of the franchise in this form. How cool would that have been?
World of Warcraft has been very prominent again in gaming news recently – just yesterday, Blizzard confirmed that WoW Classic, which will allow nostalgic players to once again play the game in its vanilla form, will officially launch on Tuesday 27th August, and there’s also a 15th anniversary collectors edition of the game releasing in October.
