Konami has revealed the full lineup for their upcoming Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which we now know will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Thursday 16th May.
We already knew that the collection would include Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, and Super Castlevania IV, and thanks to a blog post on the PlayStation website by Konami’s Senior Public Relations Specialist, Tommy Williams, we now know that the collection will be rounded out by Castlevania: Bloodlines, Kid Dracula, Castlevania: The Adventure, and Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest.
Castlevania: Bloodlines released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis (over 25 years ago!) and is notable for being one of the only games in the series that doesn’t include a member of the Belmont Family. Instead, players assume the role of the very-boringly named John Morris as he tries to stop Dracula’s niece from resurrecting her uncle. Kid Dracula, meanwhile, is a cutesy Castlevania spin-off for the Game Boy that released in 1993; the games antagonist, Galamoth, later appeared as a boss in the 1997 game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation.
Sticking with the Game Boy theme, Castlevania: The Adventure was the first Castlevania game to appear on a handheld console when it released all the way back in 1989. It features an ancestor of Simon Belmont called Christopher, as he goes on a quest to defeat Dracula in truly retro black and white graphics. The aforementioned Simon Belmont is the central figure in Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest (which released for the NES in 1988), however, as he quite obviously goes on a quest to undo a curse put upon him by Dracula.
The Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which is being released as part of Konami’s 50th anniversary celebrations, will release digitally for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Thursday 16th May. It’ll set you back £15.99, or $19.99 if you’re reading this from across the pond.
