Microsoft has announced the list of free games that will be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers during April.
The first free offering will be The Technomancer, the action-RPG developed by Spiders (the development company, not a bunch of arachnids) that released back in June of 2016. It received mixed reviews upon its release, with praise being directed at the games world and story but a lot of criticism being aimed at the games technical issues and lack of polish. Still, you can check it out for yourself for free from Monday 1st April until Tuesday 30th April, so if you’re a fan of action-RPG’s then form your own opinion.
The second free Xbox One offering, Outcast: Second Contact, will be available to download for free from Tuesday 16th April until Wednesday 15th May. Outcast: Second Contact is the 2017 remake of the 1999 cult classic Outcast, which sparked the open-world action adventure genre when it released on PC back in the day. Outcast: Second Contact received great reviews when it was released and will be a worthy addition to your collection, particularly when it hasn’t cost you any money!
If you’re playing on an Xbox 360, or if you’re an Xbox One player who enjoys making use of backwards compatible offerings through Games with Gold, then April is a great month for you. First off, 2005’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (yes, the good one) is available for free from Monday 1st April until Monday 15th April. It’s insane to think that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 came out on the original Xbox fourteen years ago (where has my life gone?!?) but it’ll be great to relive my youth again. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will still support online play, and I expect it to be pretty well populated with old school players who were disgusted with the more recent rebooted Star Wars: Battlefront titles.
When that free offering is up, attention turns to 2007’s Xbox 360 title Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, which will be available to download from Tuesday 16th April until Tuesday 30th April. GRAW 2 (remember calling them GRAW? Awesome) wasn’t quite as well-received as its predecessor which released the year before, but it was still a decent third-person tactical shooter and should help you pass a bit of time.

It’s another pretty decent month of freebies from Microsoft. Don’t forget that you can currently still download some of March’s free offerings, as Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance are available until Sunday 31st March, and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is still available until Monday 15th April.
