March’s Games with Gold include Plants vs Zombies: GW2 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Microsoft has announced the games lineup for March’s free offerings as part of Games with Gold, and it’s another good month for Xbox freebies.

For Xbox One players, March will bring you third-person shooter Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, that originally released back in 2016 to great reviews. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 will be available to download from Saturday 16th March until Monday 15th April, allowing players to compete in 24-player multiplayer, 4-player co-op modes or play solo. The second free title, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion, is more recent, having only released in July of last year. It’s a turn-based RPG based on the Adventure Time animated series and it has a notable art style, but it did receive mixed reviews. That offering will be free for the entire month of March, and it’s a good choice if you have kids to entertain.

Over on the Xbox 360 side of things, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is arguably the standout offering of the whole month. Revengeance is a hack-and-slash spin-off of the Metal Gear series that originally released back in 2013. The main protagonist of the game is cyber-ninja Raiden, who you probably best remember as the unexpected protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty from way back on the PS2. Revengeance also received great reviews on release, and it’ll be downloadable for free from Saturday 16th March until Sunday 31st March, available to play on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility.

The original Xbox is also getting a shout out, with 2005’s tactical first-person shooter Star Wars: Republic Commando, which is also available to play on the Xbox One via backwards compatibility, being available to download free of charge between Friday 1st March and Friday 15th March. Republic Commando has you playing as the leader of an elite squad that you can command as you battle against Separatist forces during the Clone Wars. It’s a great game, but obviously it will look and feel rather dated.

Don’t forget that if you’re eager for some old school multiplayer mayhem then you can still download one of February’s offerings, Super Bomberman R, for free until Friday 15th March.
