SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech

SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech heading to the Nintendo Switch on April 25th

Image & Form Games has just released a new gameplay trailer for their forthcoming RPG card-battler SteamWorld Quest: The Hand of Gilgamech, and with it announced a release date for the game.

SteamWorld Quest will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Thursday 25th April, priced at £22.49.

SteamWorld Quest is the latest game from the SteamWorld series, following the hugely popular Steamworld Tower Defense, Dig/Dig2, and Heist games. This latest entry will be the first time we’ve seen cards in a SteamWorld title, which obviously caught my attention right away as a big Hearthstone fan.

Check out the release date trailer here:

As you can see from the trailer, SteamWorld Quest not only features the graphical style of the SteamWorld universe that we all know and love, but also catchy combat music that reminded me of the old school turn-based RPG’s of yesteryear.

Gameplay wise, SteamWorld Quest is more story-driven than previous games in the series, with dialog between battles. Every character in your party comes with a streamlined deck containing just eight cards that represent their different abilities. At the start of combat, your characters eight cards are shuffled together with you drawing six. You can then play three cards each turn, with turns resolving in the order in which you played your cards. It all looks simple enough from the trailer, but you can guarantee the game will feature some extremely strategic levels later on.

As a fan of card games this might just turn out to be my favorite game in the SteamWorld series. Nintendo has also done well to secure time-exclusive rights to the title, and I for one can’t wait to play SteamWorld Quest on my travels…or on the toilet.
