Numantian Games’ highly-rated post-apocalyptic RTS, They Are Billions, is coming to the PS4 in July, it has been announced.
The port is being handled by serial PlayStation-porters BlitWorks, who have already ported over a number of popular PC games such as Don’t Starve and Super Meat Boy. If you aren’t familiar, They Are Billions is “an addictive RTS set on a post-apocalyptic world.” where the aim of the game is to “build a colony strong enough to defeat the billions of zombies that are roaming the world, seeking to annihilate the last human colonies. Build walls, gates, towers, and structures to protect yourself and watch the surroundings.”
To do this, players will have to plan their strategy and take care over the placement of their buildings and army, as well as perfecting things such as resource management and the hiring and training of soldiers. There’s a lot to do and learn, but thankfully the game features a very handy pause system that allows players to pause proceedings as many times as they want, giving yourself time to carefully plan and perfect your strategies.
Speaking on the development of the port, BlitWorks CEO Tony Cabello said:
“When we first talked with Numantian Games about bringing They Are Billions to PS4, we knew it was going to be a huge challenge (there can be serious amount of zombies on screen), but our experience porting other games to PlayStation 4 has paid off, and we’ve finally achieved a game experience as good as the original. Be prepared to face the biggest swarms of infected you’ve seen — up to 20,000 units in real time. Don’t let them take over your colony!”
There will be a fair number of people who would never even consider playing a strategy game such as this on a console, as a controller usually doesn’t lend itself well to this type of game. That’s an opinion that is shared by BlitWorks, but the pause system and mouse and keyboard compatibility has allayed their fears:
“We would have been reluctant to play a normal RTS on console, but the pause on They Are Billions is a game changer, and the fact that you can play it comfortably with a controller. Even more, if you still prefer to play with a mouse and keyboard the possibility is also there.”
It’s very much been a day for This Is Billions related news. Earlier today, news broke that the games highly-anticipated campaign mode will be made available on Tuesday 18th June. With the PS4 port launching at some point in July, it would be fair to assume that the campaign mode will be included in the port, but we’ll have to wait for an official announcement before that’s confirmed.
