The Xbox Game Pass has been a pretty big success for Microsoft, we’re all advocates of it here at BuffNerfRepeat. It offers gamers great value for money, and now Microsoft are going to try and replicate this success by making the Game Pass available on the PC.
If you already have the Game Pass, you may or may not know that you can actually already play some of the Game Pass games on the PC, but these are only the “Play Anywhere” titles. Microsoft now wants to make other titles available on the PC; whether these will be PC exclusives or specific games—such as Two Point Hospital, for example—or if they will simply have the same titles that are currently available on the Xbox (where available) remains to be seen.
Anyway, the game line up doesn’t really matter at the moment, as there’s no release date attached to the PC version of the game pass. The important thing to know is that it’s coming.
Microsoft’s Nadella had the following to say:
“Xbox has the key gaming community and the monetisation capabilities. Whether it’s first-party games or third-party games, we are best-in-class in that monetisation and that’s what’s reflected in the results.”
“So given that structural position, we are going to make sure that we keep increasing the strength of the community. You see that already with Minecraft going to all platforms and that increasing the intensity of the community and you’ll see us do more of that. Obviously, bringing Game Pass to even the PC is going to be a big element of that.”
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Game Pass moving forward, not just on the PC but the Xbox too. With Microsoft buying several studios, there must be quite a few Xbox exclusive games in the works, all of which will be available on the Game Pass.
