Thou giveth and thou taketh away. The Infinity Blade—that was only just added in the most recent Fortnite update—has been removed for being too overpowered. To be honest, I don’t understand how no one at Epic realised that introducing a weapon which could destroy buildings in one hit with a high rate of fire wouldn’t be too overpowered. What a shocker.
Have a watch of the video below to see just how OP it was:

Anyway, Epic has since realised their mistake and have removed the weapon. However, it was a little too late, as the sword was used in the Fortnite tournament; you know, the one that has a prize pool of $1million? This made the game completely unbalanced and in my opinion made a complete mockery of the tournament, there should be a cooling off period before new features and weapons are added to official tournaments, similar to how Blizzard handle updates in the official Overwatch Leagues and World Cups.
Heya folks,
We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game.
The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items.
Thanks for calling us out on this!

This isn’t the first time that Epic has introduced a new weapon and have had to remove it almost straight away. Anyone remember the guided missile? How fucking irritating was that? And what about the shopping trolley fiasco?
With all that said, we love the way that Epic aren’t scared to try new and crazy things. It’s one of the reasons so many people love Fortnite and Epic Games as a whole.
