Subnautica finally launching on PS4 in December

Subnautica has been on the Xbox preview programme since 2016, and it has been on Steam in early access for even longer. Now, over 2 years later, it’s making its way to the PS4 on December 4th, and it will also launch fully on the Xbox One at the same time.

People have been playing Subnautica for years now, but it only left early access in January of this year, and since the PlayStation doesn’t have a preview programme like the Xbox it makes sense that it’s only coming to the PS4 now. That being said, the game has been in a pretty stable state for a long time now, so it’s fairly baffling why it took so long to leave early access.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of playing this underwater adventure yet, then you should definitely pick it up. The game sees you crash land on an ocean planet where you must craft and scavenge resources to repair your ship in order to escape, though there are barriers in the way and things get a bit scary as you venture further into the depths of the open oceans; the light blue oceans that you first arrived in quickly turn to deep, dark depths where once small sharks turn into monsters.

Exploration and resource gathering is just one part of the game, there’s also detailed narrative, missions and a decent story, but they don’t contain you or hold you back; you’re generally free to go and do whatever you want. Oh, and did I mention that the game is beautiful? From the water to the coral reef, everything looks stunning.

Think of Subnautica as the Ocean version of No Man’s Sky, just with more stuff to do.

Subnautica will be available both digitally and physically on December 4th and December 7th respectively. The expansion, which is out on the PC already, titled ‘Subnautica: Below Zero’ is in progress and will launch on both consoles at a later date.
